fun-filled read

Not only does this book contain quaint tales from all over Britain, but it contains little tidbits of knowledge as well.
It is so hard to determine which story was my favorite. I loved them all. The stories told in this book are all retellings of old stories that had been passed along for ages.
As for the tidbits of information, these are all gleaned from the various tellings and lore from around Great Britain. There is a section that lists the various tribes of Faeries, Elves and Goblins as they are known in each area of Great Britain. Such as Tylwyth Teg of Wales or the Ferrishyn of the Isle of Man. Plus by reading the information, you can also learn how to attract the fae folk that you would like while avoiding the more mischievous of the bunch.
Not only is this a wonderful book of tales that you can tell the children in your life, but this is a wonderful book for anyone who wants to work with the fae in their magickal dealings.

Adorable book, not only for children. but also for grown-ups, If you were educated under the spell of "Alice in Wonderland", this book is for you! It takes you away from the daily routine and makes you think of other things .... real or unreal ... it doesn't matter ... you're reading it! they are also here, reading with you over your shoulder. Besides, technically, it is very well put together..If you like fantasy, this is it. FIVE STARS. MARGARET July 2015

Faeries, Elves and Goblins: The Old Stories

This was a most interesting and entertaining book. I highly recommend it for anyone who likes fairy folk stories. This book is all about fairies and goblins and elves.
I've read fairy stories before, but it was most interesting to read a whole book with stories from England and Ireland and thereabouts. And even more interesting to read some about the background behind the stories and how they're connected. These are retellings of authentic fairy folklore tales. That made this a fun read. It was interesting to me that people during the time these stories were told obviously believed in these creatures. In fact, people even during recent times have been proven to believe in these creatures. For those people these are not just stories, but truths, and that is powerful. I don't believe in them, but I found them fascinating nonetheless.
The only reason I am giving this 4 stars is because I think that rather than having a notes section at the back, the notes for each story would have been better presented with each story. And, though there were links in the notes section to various things in other places in the book, once you clicked on the link, you had to find your own way back to your spot in the notes. For that reason, I didn't follow any but one of the links.
I highly recommend this book, though, to anyone who is interested in fairies and the like, or folklore. It is a treasure trove of interesting stories and information.
