Who said Shakespeare only writes star-crossed?

When I first read this book, I HAD to go back and read it again. The story is about how a teenager's world is shattered. She falls in love with this guy who is perfect for her. She later discovers that this guy's last name is Montana and is rlated to the woman who killed her sister in drunnk driving accident. As a matter of fact it is his mother. Their world when they are together is peaceful and calm, while at home, Jenny's family is still coping with death. While reading the book I was thinking will she give up Rob for her family? If you read this book, and I recommend you do, then you will find out the answer to this question.

I first read this book when I was 11 years old (which was 14 years ago) and it has stuck with me ever since. It is about a girl named Jenny whose sister is killed in the beginning of the book when she is hit by a drunk driver. Two years later, Jenny meets a boy at school named Rob and they fall in love. However, they later discover that Rob's mother is the drunk driver who hit Jenny's sister. Jenny struggles with her feelings for Rob and her loyalty to her family (who wants to keep Jenny and Rob apart) as well as loyalty to her sister's memory. This book is exceptionally and realistically written. Although written for the teen market, I think pre-teens and adults would enjoy it as well.

Great Book

When I first read this book earlier this year ... I thought it would be sappy. The title itself is a turn off. There are a few cheesy parts but overall it is a great read. I am the type of person who is easily sick over mushy stuff. I love romance novels but they have to be realistic. I found all of the romantic parts adorable. They were sweet but not overly so. I wish this would be made into a film. It would be one of the few good teen movies. I hope this review was helpful.

John Algeo is Professor Emeritus of English at the University of Georgia. He is past president of the American Dialect Society, the Dictionary Society of North America, and the American Name Society. He was an associate editor of the OXFORD COMPANION TO THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE and editor of Volume 6 of the CAMBRIDGE HISTORY OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE: ENGLISH IN NORTH AMERICA. He was a Fulbright Senior Research Scholar and a Guggenheim Fellow at University College London and is author of the 2006 Cambridge book BRITISH OR AMERICAN ENGLISH? A HANDBOOK OF WORD AND GRAMMAR PATTERNS.

Worth the Twenty Minutes!

I've read multiple books from the INSTANT series and they usually tend to leave me satisfied and informed; "Instant Wit" is no exception. First of all, the book is concise and to-the-point; I spent around 15-20 minutes reading the book and that's really all it takes to learn from these things. They're really great in that regard.

This book is particularly useful because a quick wit is something a lot of people wish they had, and it follows a format that's easy to understand. The flow from subject to subject is nice and is logical, which is important in instructional books. When I finished the book, I was really just feeling good about it; there were no frustrating or confusing points and that made the information easy to absorb.

The author also includes examples and exercises for the reader to consider. I personally think this is an excellent idea, considering how imagining yourself in a situation and practicing can be one of the best ways to adopt a skill. The actual content of these examples can sometimes feel a bit awkward or goofy, admittedly, but I don’t see this as a problem. The idea for the examples is to help the reader imagine a situation in which he or she would use the skills being taught, and they do a good job of this.

Overall, I'd say the book is definitely worth the read. It barely takes any time to learn from it, and it addresses such a relatable problem. The structure and flow is good, the teaching methods are good, and it's concise; it does what it does very nicely. Nicely done.

Great Practice To Be Witty

This book about wit and its uses is inspiring. I don't know of any other resource where one teaches this skill of wit. Some say that wit comes naturally, and while they are right, any skill can be practiced to perfection, even wit, if you practice smart and hard. This book can enable you to do that.

It begins by laying out why being witty is important in social interactions, your career, and pretty much anywhere where relationships are important.

The imaginative "twister" technique it teaches will be useful for some. Being the intuitive person that I am, the technique was not as important to me to generate witty remarks and comebacks, but the appending material when and where to use wit was more beneficial to me, personally. However, if you are not an intuitive person, the technique will greatly help you become witty yourself.

The book offers some common scenarios for practice your wittiness. It gives out some warnings, such as not to escalate a situation using wittiness, but to temper it to an ideal state.

The length of the book leaves a bit to be desired, but it is meant to be a quick how-to guide. It is worth its price and would be needed to be reread more than once to achieve the full effect.

Another good book with good information.

I've read a few of the "Instant" books so far, and once again I'm not disappointed. I appreciate how the author takes the time to let the reader know that it's okay, and that we all go through situations that are uncomfortable or degrading.

Not everyone has a naturally witty repertoire and can spout out the right words at exactly the right time. The reason your favorite television show character does this so easily is because the entire scene is scripted perfectly, practiced repeatedly, and filmed multiple times to get just the right expression and tone. Life looks so easy for our favorite fictional characters because that's how it's supposed to look - it's far from reality.

The author of Instant Wit addresses several real life situations. This isn't a book that teaches you precisely what to say at any given moment. No one can do that, otherwise you have no personality. The entire purpose of this book is to teach us how to communicate more effectively in uncomfortable situations and I believe it does that.

Make sure to participate in the exercises. You may feel that it's useless, because you're not going to be graded on it. Don't look at it as a test; look at it as a way to practice and get to know yourself better. You will become a pro at witty conversation with enough practice and self-education.

Lee Child Reviews The Two Deaths of Daniel Hayes

A native of England and a former television director, Lee Child lives in New York City, where he is at work on his next thriller, The Affair.

Like any reader, I love my old favorites…but I love new voices too, and I especially love it when a new voice starts to become an old favorite. It doesn’t happen often, but right now it’s happening with Marcus Sakey.

I read his first book pre-publication, and his next four confirmed what I sensed at the start, which was that this guy is the real deal and the complete package. He’s got it all. He writes likes a dream (or a nightmare), he creates characters exactly like people you know (or don’t want to know), he scares you (or makes you laugh), and above all keeps you turning the pages.

But most of all, he does the “what if” thing better than anyone in the business. What if you’ve gone straight for years, and then an old buddy gets out of prison and tries to drag you back? What if you get back from Iraq and find home is worse than the desert? What if you buy a house and find a bag of cash hidden in the floor? Would you keep it? What if you saw a way to steal a bad guy’s money - no harm, no foul? Would you do it?

“What if” questions power a lot of plots, but Sakey is special. He doesn’t just check a box or construct a neat twist for the sake of it. Reading him between the lines, I guarantee he really lives this stuff…he thinks it through and sweats it out, probably for weeks at a time. I can see him, looking around at the things he loves, looking at his house, turning and looking at his wife, asking himself, “What if? What is I had to put all this at risk? Would I? Could I? How would it feel? What would be the effect on me?”

It’s that kind of depth and intelligence and passion and emotion that sets Sakey apart.These are not just clever plots. These are real people with night sweats and wide eyes and everything to lose.

The new book The Two Deaths of Daniel Hayes takes “what if” in a new direction and to new heights. Every writer muses, “What if the reader isn’t sure whether the husband killed his wife, or not? That’s a basic whodunit. But Sakey asks, ‘What if the husband isn’t sure whether he killed his wife, or not? That’s a terrific premise, and it boosts an already–terrific thriller plot into the stratosphere. Add in LA’s easy glitz and glamour, and coast-to-coast chase tension, and a bad guy to die for (or be killed by, and shocks and surprises galore, and you’ve got the kind of story you’ve never read before.

Or, to sum it up in one line, a what-if question of my own: what if Dennis Lehane wrote a Harlan Coben story?
